The Queen Elizabeth Hospital is North Norfolk’s largest medical facility. Based in King’s Lynn, the hospital also serves parts of Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire.
In August 2023, building works started on a new Diagnostic Centre. The centre will drive forward a reduction in waiting times by increasing capacity of diagnostic imaging for outpatients. It will house cutting-edge MRI and CT scanners as well as X-ray and Ultrasound imaging used for diagnosis and monitoring of a very wide range of conditions – including cancer, heart disease and respiratory conditions.
Contractors R G Carter appointed Adrian James Acoustics as part of the project team, which also includes LSI Architects. AJA has worked on previous projects with both R G Carter and LSI, including The Forum Norwich and Goldsmith Street which won the Stirling Prize in 2019.
The first phase of our involvement was to establish compliance with BREEAM and assess noise from the proposed plant.
We will be carrying out testing as work progresses, along with final commissioning.
One of three centres
The building is expected to be completed by Summer 2024 and is one of three diagnostic centres planned for the Eastern region.
NHS Trust Director of Strategy, Carly West-Burnham said: “This dedicated centre will provide some much-needed additional imaging capacity which will in turn reduce waiting times as well as providing faster imaging capacity leading to earlier diagnosis, so ultimately improving health outcomes for our patients.”
