The Digi-Tech Factory is a major addition to City College Norwich. It provides a purpose-built hub for students studying digital technology, engineering and design skills.
AJA was initially appointed for the site noise survey of the new building. We subsequently undertook the outline acoustic design and determined detailed acoustic performance requirements for the scheme.
The centre boasts an impressive 340 PCs, over 500 monitors, many 4K interactive teaching boards, and 64km of data cabling. Across four storeys it provides teaching for cutting-edge technology with a strong focus on the application of technology within the world of work.
The building was designed by Coffey Architects and features a central plaza at ground level and an eye-catching sawtooth roofline. The exposed steelwork and structural features emphasise its high-tech character, but the open design also floods the building with light and connects it to the outside world.
The project recently won a Civic Trust Award along with the East of England Building Project of the Year from the Constructing Excellence organisation.
The Digi-Tech Factory had its official opening in October 2021. Leader of Norwich City Council Alan Waters described it as, “not only a striking addition to the campus at City College Norwich, but a priceless asset to the region as it looks to futureproof its skills in this fast-growing sector.”
