Lyng and District Community Hall has recently benefitted from a major upgrade in its acoustics.
Like many village halls, the overall design is appealing and functional, but there were problems with reverberation, particularly in the foyer. This area is popular for coffee mornings and social events. It seats 24 people and there were difficulties in carrying out conversations.
The trustees of the hall called in AJA to conduct an accurate acoustic survey and offer advice.
We visited the hall and took detailed measurements. The results were used to establish the level of absorption required to produce an acoustic environment suitable for the foyer. We have advised on many village halls over the years, so we can combine experience with technical analysis.
As independent advisors, we are able to discuss options regarding panels, finishes and aesthetic constraints. Our technical memorandum provided the basis for installing the acoustic treatment, using a local builder.
The Lyng & District Community Hall has now completed its acoustic upgrade, which features attractive circular panels.
Funding Officer for the hall, Alan Chapman said, “Thank you for what you have done and also for sending the analysis of your results. The outcome is pleasing and in practical terms it really is noticeably better. We have received some positive feedback from users, which is always good news.”
