Summer is here, so it must be time for the Wimbledon Championships.
Our relationship with the All England Lawn Tennis Club started a couple of years ago. Now we are involved in a rolling programme of improvements. Naturally, we are delighted to be part of these upgrades.
Outside courts
Last year we investigated how sound transmits around some of the outside courts. Our brief was to ensure that any changes to the surrounding buildings would not increase noise levels or adversely affect the on-court acoustics.
Acoustic models
We continued our analysis throughout the winter and spring months, collecting data and creating acoustic models of specific areas.
Calibrated results
We have produced calibrated results allowing us to generate auralisations. These sound models demonstrate how various changes to the surrounding buildings would sound on court.
Collaboration
Building on our earlier reports, we have drafted proposals which cover areas such as recommended sound insulation materials. Throughout the process, we continue to work in collaboration with the design team.
Improvements
Having carried out a series of projects for the AELTC, our suggested changes are often not visible. However, we know that audible improvements add to the success of Wimbledon and in turn the Championships – once again enjoyed by millions.
