Gary Percival
HEAD OF ENVIRONMENTAL ACOUSTICS
Gary graduated from Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge in 2009 with a First Class Honours degree in Audio & Music Technology. It was during these studies that he first developed an interest in psychoacoustics and electroacoustics.
He started his career in acoustics with Cass Allen Associates as a sound insulation test engineer, before quickly progressing to architectural and environmental acoustics consultancy work. During his time at Cass Allen, Gary completed the Institute of Acoustics Diploma in Acoustics & Noise Control in 2012 and was made a full Corporate Member of the Institute of Acoustics in 2013.
He joined WSP in 2015 where he worked primarily on architectural acoustic design for new stations serving the Crossrail development in London, as well as several new schools.
Relocating to Suffolk in 2016, Gary joined Sharps Redmore Partnership, where he took a leading role in the noise and vibration consulting team for the proposed Sizewell C nuclear power station.
While at Sharps Redmore, Gary completed an MSc in Environmental and Architectural Acoustics at London South Bank University, graduating with distinction and a commendation for his final project.
As Head of Environmental Acoustics, Gary leads the delivery and development of the company’s environmental acoustics and noise‑induced hearing loss expert witness services. He is the technical authority for his discipline, with extensive experience in noise impact assessment, expert witness work, and specialist staff development.
Notable recent projects for Adrian James Acoustics include:
- Noise and vibration monitoring and advice for Morgan Sindall in relation to road resurfacing projects on the A11 in Norfolk and A12 in Essex.
- Advising East Suffolk Council during the Development Consent Order process for the planned Sizewell C nuclear power plant on the Suffolk Coast.
- Environmental noise assessment to support proposals for an innovative major development mixing hi-tech research facilities and retirement homes at Colney Hall in Norwich.
- Assisting local businesses with Environment Agency permit applications and compliance.
