Environmental issues have never been more in the spotlight. Along with global concerns, there are constant changes to the built environment which demand expert assessment. New housing, roads and other developments often require an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) accompanied by an Environmental Statement (ES). This in turn often includes a Noise and Vibration chapter.
Adrian James Acoustics has a long history of writing and reviewing reports of this type.
RESEARCH PARK
An example of our work is Colney Hall, Norwich. We are particularly proud that we could be a key element of this new research, healthcare, and education campus. The development features a centre of excellence for neurology research and development. It is part of the Norwich Research Park and also includes associated healthcare and educational facilities.
We partnered with LSI Architects to develop a masterplan and produce an ES chapter for the Environmental Impact Assessment.
MIXED USE
Most recently we worked with NPS property consultants on the EIA for a proposed mixed-use development in Hopton, south of Great Yarmouth. This scheme provides 240 new homes, a residential care facility and a supermarket. The site is close to the A47 arterial road, and it was also important to show that noise from the supermarket would not affect residential areas.
PLANNING AUTHORITIES
We also offer advice to Local Planning Authorities and have carried out review work on many ES chapters. These include assessments for leisure facilities, wind farms and schools. We are currently assisting East Suffolk Council in reviewing the Environmental Statement for the proposed Sizewell C nuclear power station. With an expected construction time of 9 to 12 years, this is one of our long-term major projects.
MASTERPLANS
Aside from work related to EIAs, we have extensive experience in developing acoustically considerate local and national masterplans for both developers and Local Planning Authorities.
We made a significant contribution to the North Rackheath Masterplan, which included provision for 3000 homes, three schools, community facilities and 25 hectares of employment land. The site is bordered by road, rail and industrial noise sources and an effective masterplan was crucial to minimising noise impact.
