Richard Cully
ASSISTANT ACOUSTICS CONSULTANT
Richard has a strong technical and creative background. His curiosity about core principles led to a First Class Honours degree in Mathematics at the University of East Anglia. He also has a longstanding passion for sound and music, both writing and performing. An evolving interest in audio and acoustics resulted in an MSc in Audio & Music Technology at the University of York, where he achieved a Distinction in 2023.
Richie has a particular interest in auralisation, room acoustic measurement, spatial audio, and virtual acoustics. His Masters thesis focused on the design and development of the Virtual Drum Room (VDR), a system that allows drummers to perform in real-time within simulated acoustic environments. A drummer, pianist and bassist, his musical background continues to shape his interest in how sound interacts with physical space.
Richie worked as an automotive audio engineer with Meridian Audio, gaining hands-on experience in applied acoustics and system tuning. In May 2025, he joined Adrian James Acoustics to pursue his growing interest in building and environmental acoustics.
In his spare time, Richie enjoys outdoor pursuits including hiking, kayaking, and sailing. He has sailed a range of vessels from dinghies to tall ships, including a crossing of the North Sea to the Netherlands. He is also passionate about motoring and enjoys discovering new places by road.
