Joe Bear
HEAD OF TECHNICAL
Joe Bear is a Chartered Engineer (CEng) and Member of the Institute of Acoustics with over 25 years of experience in acoustics, noise, and vibration consultancy. He graduated from the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research at the University of Southampton in 2001 and worked for Bureau Veritas before joining AJA in 2006. After 16 years with the company, he spent four years working at SRL before returning in 2026 to take up the role of Head of Technical.
As Head of Technical, Joe supports the consultant team by providing cross-discipline technical guidance, quality-assurance frameworks and mentoring. He works alongside our discipline heads to promote consistency and best practice across the business.
Joe’s work on the University of East London’s Stratford Campus Library won the Association of Noise Consultants award for Architectural Acoustics in 2013. Joe currently serves as Secretary of the IOA Membership Committee. He is an experienced expert witness and has published and presented papers on operable partitions, SEND acoustics and the proposed revisions to BS 8233:2014 – Guidance on sound insulation and noise reduction for buildings.
