AJA were commended in the Architectural Acoustics: Education category at the ANC Awards for our work on the UEA Bob Champion Building at the Norwich and Norfolk University Hospital. Project acoustician Andy Oldridge was presented with the commendation by physicist and TV presenter Helen Czerski and Ecophon’s Shane Cryer at the ANC Conference in Birmingham in June.

AJA were appointed by R G Carter at Stage C of a design and build contract with the brief to ensure that the building, designed by Hawkins Brown architects, would not only be fit for purpose, but acoustically excellent. The end result is a building that is unusual – perhaps unique – to achieve such high quality and innovation in a contractor-led design team.
The judges noted that this was a great project in respect of the collaboration between the team and showed that a D&B framework can achieve results. The judges liked the way the acousticians had picked up the brief and set their own agenda convincing other parties of the importance of acoustic features that might otherwise have been value-engineered out of the final building.
