A new Oxford-based music centre has been completed.

The Dragon School is renowned for its strong music tradition, with over 800 instrumental music lessons taught each week. A few years ago, the decision was made to replace the outdated music facilities.
Ambitious brief
Working closely with the school, we helped shape an ambitious brief for the new music centre. The design features a purpose-built recital hall, 24 individual practice rooms, three rehearsal spaces, and two striking double-height classrooms. A cutting-edge digital recording suite was also a key requirement.

Lighting and AV
Not only did we work on the acoustics and audio-visual requirements, but the lighting layouts too, led by Theatre Consultant Ian Rees.

Technical infrastructure
Our early involvement in the design process brought tangible benefits, including optimised layouts for performance areas and early consideration of technical infrastructure such as ventilation, cable routing, and hearing loop systems.

Collaboration
We collaborated closely with the architects MICA and the contractor Kingerlee. The Project Managers were CPC Project Services.
Now that the centre is fully operational, it stands ready for a new term – and ready to inspire more musicians and performers of the future.
