Andrew Oldridge studied at the University of York, graduating with a Master's degree in Electronic Engineering with Music Technology Systems. As well as core engineering principles and electronic engineering modules his studies included acoustics and psychoacoustics, recording studio techniques, noise and signal processing. He specialised in pyschoacoustics, contributing to ongoing research at the university by submitting a final year dissertation with an investigation into spatial cues and anthropometry. Upon graduating he was awarded the admission tutor’s prize for outstanding performance at MEng level.
He joined AJA as a full-time acoustics consultant in 2008, working in architectural acoustics, environmental acoustics, computer modelling of auditoria and sound insulation design and measurement. While doing all of this he also studied for the Institute of Acoustics Diploma in Acoustics and Noise Control and was commended for achieving Merits in all subjects. He is a member of the Institute of Acoustics and is accredited under the ANC registration scheme to take sound insulation tests in accordance with Approved Document E and is an inspector for the Robust Details sound insulation scheme.
He is a Chartered Engineer, achieving registration with the Engineering Council in 2015.
He has 10 years experience in the acoustic design for schools and auditoria for the performing arts, the design and testing of sound insulation in domestic and commercial premises, and industrial and environmental noise assessments. Recent and current projects include the new cross-laminated timber residential developments at the University of Anglia, the award-winning new concert hall and music building at King's College School Wimbledon, and the Blackhorse Mills residential development in Walthamstow.
Along with his project work, since 2016 he has also worked on a wide variety of Expert Witness cases for noise induced hearing loss, undertaking research, calculating daily noise exposures, NIL and apportionment, and writing expert reports for over 20 cases. He has attended Bond Solon’s 'Excellence in Written Evidence' and 'Witness Familiarisation' training courses and is now one of AJA’s panel of independent expert witnesses.
